Before we get back at it, I wanted to share some lovely images of some shoots from my time in New England.
School starts up in two weeks. Every summer gets shorter and shorter. But what a summer this was! I love the beach and it was an amazing 16 days. But now it's time to get my oldest off to college and my other two ready for high school. Before we get back at it, I wanted to share some lovely images of some shoots from my time in New England.

Summertime... and the living is easy! Let's have some fun! We just got back from a great week at the beach in Florida. My takeaway from that trip? I NEED TO LIVE BY THE BEACH IN SUMMERTIME! The photos on the beach at sunset....gah! I could sit there every single night and just shoot away, happy as a clam. But until then I'll continue to take beautiful portraits in my adorable studio and shoot events around town. I've got events around town booked and I'm ready to get some folks in and have some fun. As an incentive to get out of your bathing suit and maybe take a shower and put on some makeup (slacker), I want to do a little package deal. Instead of charging a session fee then product fees on top of that, either come to the studio or let's go out and shoot and you will get 10 amazingly beautiful, fully edited, high resolution photos, all in for $550. Typically this would run between $1500-2000. I will be leaving town again soon so I can only shoot until June 30th. Let's do this thing. I love shooting events... whether it be a wedding, mitzvah, party, fundraiser or corporate events. The party atmosphere is always high charged and festive, making my job so enjoyable. That's not to say it is without it's challenges... being on your feet for sometimes 10 hours straight while stressed to get all the important shots is exhausting. Getting out of bed the next morning after an event I look something like a baby giraffe taking it's first steps.
But most people don't know what to look for when hiring an event photographer. I mean, how hard can it be, right? Go to a party and take some pictures. Yeah, simple. Haha! Besides having the experience to know where to be and when to be there during the event, an event photographer needs to know lighting. There's almost nothing more important than having adequate lighting during an event. And for some photographers, that's intimidating. There are so many options out there and I've seen some photographers show up at an event with the most elaborate lighting set ups which, I think, are a bit overkill. I prefer a simple set up so that I can move around and not be too obtrusive. My goal is to be a fly on the wall, so to speak. I want to capture the event in a way that people aren't feeling overwhelmed by my presence. I want the event to carry on in a natural way so that you end up with photos that are real and momentous. Which is why I'm not a huge fan of posed photos during a event. I like to catch the unexpected and joyful spontaneous moments. And my "your mom's" I mean mine. We did not look like this in high school. Well, at least I didn't. Thanks to the interweb, girls know all about fashion, makeup, hair, etc. We had Seventeen Magazine (anyone try curling your hair overnight with tissues? No? Just me? great) Here are Melanie, Emma and Vivien. The blonde, brown and red hair just worked out perfectly. :-) high school seniors, senior photography, atlanta senior photographer, senior portraits, flaunt photography, atlanta photographer
My birthday is this Friday and I'm all about celebrating birthdays. Since I can't celebrate with each and every one of you, I'm doing this instead. If you book your Mother's Day session on Friday April 22nd, there will be no session fee.... that's $290 you're keeping in your pocket in honor of your momma (or yourself, if this session is for you!) Details:
You must email, text, call, Facebook, Tweet or Instagram me to book your session. If I receive your request ON 4/22/16, consider it official, even if we don't speak directly that day... because, you know, I'll be busy turning 46. Gonna be honest here... I was never a Kid Rock fan. I just didn't have strong feelings one way or the other. But I was hired to shoot him at The Buckhead Theater and who am I to say no to an offer like that? No one, I tell you. What a show! The guy is a year younger than me and he was all over that stage like a young whippersnapper. Atlanta, Events, Event Photography, Buckhead Theater, Kid Rock, Atlanta Photographer, Atlanta Event PhotographerHair and makeup artists are the bomb. They are truly artists... their mediums are styling products and cosmetics and their canvases are women (and men)! The makeup artist I use for basically all of my shoots in Atlanta is Michele Franco. Her work is always on point. But best of all, she's a super cool, funny woman who I like being around...which is important when you're together for 3 hours a shoot. So when I wanted to surprise my mother with a makeover and photo shoot when I visited Naples last week, I was nervous about finding just the right HMUA. I found Jewel online and when we spoke on the phone, I knew I had made the right choice. Her work in photos spoke for itself, but it was her personality that sealed the deal. She arrived as most HMUA do... with a giant rolling case, carrying 4 other things and all while being fashionable and put together, cracking jokes as she pulled the case over the door frame. We agreed prior that I would do some new photos for Jewel's website and social media so after she finished my mother's hair and makeup, that's just what we did. Anyone can purchase a professional-grade camera these days. But that doesn't mean the photos will automatically look professional-grade! People ask me all of the time what makes my photos look so "professional" versus theirs, Besides all of the technical aspects of how to use the camera (which I teach in workshops btw), the first piece of advice I give to people is invest in an "off-camera flash". So what does that mean? Most cameras come with a built-in flash. If you don't know how to rig the flash so it's bouncing or diffused in some way, don't use it..... ever. The light is hard and too direct. examples:The flash doesn't have to be super expensive. Start with something on the cheaper end if you want but a flash is one of the most important investments you can make. More important that a nice lens. I have 4 flashes right now. At events, I use one on my camera and another one in the venue that is being triggered by my camera to light up the space. The other two are backups mostly. The Canon 580ex II is my go-to flash. This flash sits in the shoe mount on top of your camera and it will change your life. Well, maybe not your life, but definitely your photos! You can also rent gear if you want to try it out before you buy, which I do with lenses. For workshop information or if you want to learn more about flashes or other gear, hit me up!
